Audi’s RS7 Sportback has been the answer to petrolheads who love Audi’s that drive well and go ridiculously fast. And it’s certainly no car for the mass market. The RS7 Sportback is a superfast saloon that is perfectly suited for India. There are very few performance cars that look gorgeous even when standing still and this Audi is one of them. It’s also a high-performance car that can seat five in comfort, making it rather practical for regular use. Plus, it has the power and the tech to make you feel like a hero behind the wheel. And then of course, there’s the fact that it has good boot space on offer. Under the bonnet lies a 4.0-litre TFSI V8, making this second-generation RS7 Sportback a real stonker, also considering its lesser price than before.
Looking at the Audi RS7 Sportback, it appears wide and low-slung. It gets sharp lines and the signature Sportback silhouette looks spot-on. At the rear, it gets a pair of oval exhaust pipes, giving it a sporty look and these are sure to draw lots of attention. The flared wheel arches on the Audi RS7 Sportback give it an almost race car-like stance, and trust us, it’s a lot wider than it appears in pictures. Up-ahead, it sports a new RS-designed bumper along with the three-dimensional single-frame honeycomb grille finished in black. The new LED headlights look fantastic with dynamic indicators.
Step into the Audi RS7 Sportback and you will notice updates in the form of the sports seats with integrated headrests; there’s plush leather as well with honeycomb-patterned red stitching; then there’s the flat-bottomed steering wheel that features new aluminium paddle-shifters along with Audi drive select featuring RS1 and RS2 modes. Audi Cars have also given the Sportback premium carpets with a nice, big RS logo. You get lots of equipment too, like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, displaying performance, boot pressure, acceleration, lap times and G-forces. It also features a 48-volt Mild Hybrid System which recovers 12kWs of power under mild acceleration, sending it to the lithium-ion battery. This beast can sprint from 0-100kph in 3.6 seconds and Audi Cars have included an in-built computer to help measure lap times.
Fast and easy
The V8 motor rumbles on starting it up and that’s when the power figures spring to your mind: 592bhp and 800Nm of torque the moment you floor the loud pedal. Thanks to its width, the RS7 Sportback holds on to the tarmac with immense confidence and it’s a hoot driving it on highways. We got our hands on the fully-specced model, which features rear-wheel steering and 22-inch wheels, resulting is fantastic driving dynamics along with rear wheel steering coming into play. It’s a car you can make the most of, be it cruising or hitting three-digit speeds. You sit low in the cabin, but not to the extent of feeling uncomfortable. You do feel its girth but there’s an amazing level of traction at your disposal, plus you get wheel-selective torque control that enhances handling around corners – this helps sending power to the wheels during cornering.
The ultimate family Audi?
If you’ve got the moolah to shell out, love a not-so-understated Audi with hardcore performance to back it up, this is a perfect fit for the driving enthusiast. It’s also practical, which means you can take the family folks along and have them all biting their nails as you floor the throttle. Then of course, there’s the fact you get a good amount of boot space, but remember the whopping price tag of 1.94 crore rupees. This is clearly an Audi that will aim at the heart more than the head, but will also get approval from the lady of the house.
