Stirling
Fans of Braveheart will recall Stirling as the site of William Wallace’s first victory in The First War of Scottish Independence.
At the Battle of Stirling Bridge, Andrew Moray (and Wallace) defeated the English forces of Hugh de Cressingham and Earl of Surrey in 1297. Although the original wooden bridge was destroyed in battle, it is thought to have been located just downstream from the stone bridge of the 15th century that crosses the River Forth.
